Keyword Suggestion Tools
SEO software designed to help you determine the best keywords to target on your website are referred to as "Keyword Suggestion Tools" (KWST) and there are several available online. However, many KWSTs are man-made and skewed, so its important to know which KWST is right for your website so you're not wasting your time optimizing for keywords that nobody is searching for.
The leading KWST available today is WordTracker. WordTracker offers more than just a quick query of potential keyword opportunities. This software actually takes 120 days worth of data and organizes into a robust database, which when queried not only returns an estimate of how many people are searching for a keyword, but also how many people are competing.
I prefer WordTracker becuase I can save queries and run scheduled reports. I also like the Keyword Effectiveness Index computed by this SEO software (a result of calculating a number of searches with number of competing sites).

All-In-One SEO Software
The BEST all-in-one SEO Software in my opinion is Web Position (WP). In all honesty, I don't use this software to optimize my web pages, I use my best practices. What I do use it for is ranking reports, submission and broken link validation.
Great for those not savvy with HTML or the Internet, WP is very simple to use for anyone. This tool is the perfect utility for SEO Experts like myself, because if you buy the Pro edition you can actually setup a schedule to automatically run, email, and archive statistics. The report feature is a fantastic way to justify your time to clients, especially ones who have seen a growth in visibility of a long time span.

Below is a screenshot of one report that can be viewed using WP. If you plan to use this software to market client websites, this is what the client would see, but without the WP logo. Your company logo will appear at the top of the report instead.
SEO Validator
The W3C offers several different SEO validator tools that are 100% completely free to use. I'm calling these tools SEO validator instead of HTML, XHTML or CSS, since SEO is the real reason people want to have perfect source code.
If you didn't already know, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) sets the standard for how a webpage should be written. Click the W3C image above to go right to the source when validating your code.
Once you've validated that your source code is up to W3C standards, you should run your site through the SEO validator at ScrubTheWeb.com. I own Web Position Pro, but I still use Scrub the Web prior to client consultations.
This validator not only looks at file size, META tags, keyword density (love this tool), download time, ALT tags, and title tags, it also gives you a near perfect picture of what the webcrawlers see when they spider your web page. I highly recommend this tool to anyone looking for an SEO validator.
Link Development Software
Due to the nature of the database queries, this type of SEO software is extremely controversial. Google has made it clear that it does not approve of any program that puts heavy load on their web server. Specifically, don't send automated queries to Google.
That being said, use extreme caution when using programs such as SEO Elite. Moderation of use is frowned on, but most of the time can be relatively safe. I know several SEO Experts who have used SE and have never been penalized. But to prove that you can be penalized, click on the image above and notice that the SE website has 0 PageRank. Do the math. Great tool, but also very dangerous.
Free Internet Marketing Tools
I have found several hundred websites in the last few years offering extremely informative, useful, and free internet marketing tools. These sites offer tools that analyze your ranking on several different search engines. They analyze broken and incoming links. Some even offer free reports on your website's progress as a way to entice you to purchase services.
I say go for it: as long as the free Internet marketing tools are in fact "free". Try them all out, find the ones that work best for you. Search Google for "free Internet marketing tools" and you may find some sites that actually offer free trials of their own brand of seo software.
